Thermal insulation in the construction of buildings
The main objective of using thermal insulation materials in the construction of buildings is to obtain suitable comfort and accommodation conditions, within a context of rational use of energy. In this sense, the quality of thermal insulation materials is as important, or even more important, than the quality of visible construction elements.
More comfort, less energy consumption
In fact, by reducing the flow of heat through ceilings, walls and floors (which is achieved through the reduction of the thermal transmission coefficient), the excellent comfort conditions desired are attained with lower energy consumption.

In traditional flat roofs, waterproofing systems applied to the thermal insulation, protecting them, are in turn subject to greater wear and less durability.
The great compression strength 300 kPa and total insensitivity to water of extruded polystyrene plates IFOAM ® covers allow its application on the flat roof waterproofing in designated reverse coverage system.
This reversal of positions allows you to protect the waterproofing want of any mechanical action, whether accelerated degradation by action of constant external temperature variations or ultraviolet radiation, increasing efficiency and system longevity.
The speed of application and ease of cut that allows the adaptation of the singular points of the insulation cover, the lock a half wood which reduces thermal bridges between plates, the imputrescibilidade and the applicability under any weather conditions, make IFOAM ® better coverage thermal insulation solution for various types of flat roofs, from technical and non accessible roofs, the roofs passable and green roofs.
The application of thermal insulation on the slopes of a sloped roof allows full use of the attic area as useful and heated part of the building. The possibility of placing a thermal insulation in a continuous manner and the outside of the sloping of the roof slab, ensures the absence of thermal bridges while taking advantage of the thermal inertia slab as a benefit to the interior comfort.
The rigid foam boards of extruded polystyrene IFOAM ® grooved, with a compressive strength of 300 kPa, and total insensitivity to water are extremely suitable to withstand loads resulting from the weight of the tiles and other permanent or occasional overloads as well as the wet environment that frequently occurs in the lower face of the tiles.
Additionally, the design grooved on the upper surface of these boards IFOAM Plan ®, has been specially developed to give better grip and locking points or ripped mortar or other adhesive means, allowing for easy and stable application of the tiles on the thermal insulation.
In coverings with slatted mechanically fixed to the slab or other continuous resilient support, the placement of the thermal insulation boards with the groove in the direction of the slope, not only allows a correct support of the gauge as the increased ventilation under the battens, decreasing its degradation by the presence of moisture even without the application of counter-ripped.
All these features make IFOAM ® slotted the most appropriate thermal insulation and longer lasting for application in pitched roofs on ongoing support, both in new construction and renovation work or rehabilitation.
VENTILATED FACADES AND DOUBLE WALLS
In essence of operation of a double wall is the contribution of the air-box for evaporation and drainage from outside moisture seepage or by capillarity, or by condensation of steam traffic interiParedes (IFOAM / Extruded Polystyrene) or to abroad.
The frequent presence of humidity in the air-box is therefore a fundamental aspect to be taken into account in the choice of the insulation for this application.
The insensitivity to water, the null capillarity and high resistance to the passage of steam, allow the rigid foam boards of extruded polystyrene IFOAM ® walls maintain their thermal insulation characteristics throughout the life of the building, independently of any moisture in-box air and further decrease the possibility of occurrence of condensations without placing additional vapor barriers.
The plates and insulation IFOAM ® walls are designed to greatly facilitate its implementation. While the length of 2.6M allows to easily make up the height of the air-box with a single plate at the top, the male-female fitting allows the locking between the plates and a self-supporting performance of the thermal insulation cloth.
In addition to being the ideal insulation solution for double walls, the signs of IFOAM ® walls also provide an easy, self-supporting and durable solution for insulation of ventilated facades or for thermal rehabilitation of pitched roofs of discontinuous structure.
BRIDGES THERMAL TREATMENT
The existence of thermal bridges in the building envelope have not only the drawback of the additional heat loss in these areas, but also and especially the deteriorating effect of the building elements in those zones, through the apareciParedes (IFOAM / Extruded Polystyrene) processing of surface moisture and interstitial caused by condensation.
They are the most significant examples the thermal bridge zones slab fronts of the beams and pillars in buildings with double walls, which have the thermal insulating box air-interrupted these concrete elements.

Whether in new construction or rehabilitation of buildings, placement of thermal insulation continuously nParedes (IFOAM / Extruded Polystyrene) the facade of the outer shell allows a considerable reduction of thermal bridges, which has contributed to the increased popularity of these systems, are ventilated facade curtain or kind, whether in the form of systems ETICS (External Thermal Insulation Composite Systems).

The floor slabs of the building envelope, both in earthen floors and air (on outside areas or inland areas not air-conditioned), there are considerable heat losses that make the application of thermal insulation greatly needed in these areas.
The extruded polystyrene plates IFOAM ® floors offer a high compressive strength, adequate to withstand the load of requests on the floors, which coupled with its zero capillarity and full imputrescibilidade make this material an ideal solution for thermal insulation in contact with the ground.
The high fatigue resistance of constant loads, and resistance to permanent temperatures up to 65 ° C are of rigid foam boards of extruded polystyrene IFOAM ® flooring thermal insulation suitable for use in floor heating, either by electrical or hydraulic systems.
FLOORS SUBJECT TO HIGH LOADS
When a floor needs to be thermally insulated and on it there will be heavy loads, the extruded polystyrene plates IFOAM ® parking with an extraordinary compressive strength of 500 kPa plus the other features of other products of the Plan IFOAM ®, are the ideal solution for thermal insulation in industrial floors, cold room and parking decks.
The excellent behavior towards water and moisture, giving integrity to the plates of IFOAM ® parking for application to sealing, even when this corresponds wet side of the system, allows an additional mechanical protection for waterproofing membranes, either during work in construction or the dynamic forces caused by traffic rotated during the life of the pavement, promoting increased efficiency and system longevity.
